So a couple of months ago I was out for a beer with my mate Al and he asked me if I fancied going to Adepticon next year (2016). He’d been to Gen Con with another fried last year and they’d both decided to go to Adepticon for their next gaming trip. I’d declined the offer to go to Gen Con with them because from all the footage I’d seen from previous years it seemed like it would be just to manic to really enjoy. And from what they said when they go back that certainly seemed to be the case. However everything I’ve heard about Adepticon has lead me to believe it’s a more relaxed event. So I’d had a couple of beers and I decided that it sounded like a good idea and said that I’d join them.
I’d not thought much more about it until the end of last week when Darren sent me a message to say that he had booked the hotel for the event. So that’s it then I’m definitely going. Adepticon itself isn’t until next year, Thursday 31st of March to Sunday 3rd of April, to be precise, so I didn’t expect things to start so soon. Apparently the Renaissance Schaumburg convention Centre Hotel, which is hosting the event, is now taking reservations, at a special event rate, which is why Darren booked it now.
So now that it looks like I’m definitely going to be making the trip I thought I’d do a series of post documenting the planning for the trip and then the trip itself. Ticking off the key milestones along the way such as booking flights and most importantly booking the event itself. Tickets don’t go on sale until late October / early November so with the exception of when we book the flights, there won’t be much to do between now and then.
I’m thinking that the nearer I get to the event the more I’ll be able to tell you and I’m also going to try and cover the event itself. I would like to send updates from the event itself but I don’t know how practical that will be and may end up just taking lots of pictures and doing the updates once I get back.
Anyway that’s it for this first post and I’ll keep you updated as things progress.
