Weekly Waffle #365 – The gang is al together

1st February 2025

For the Weekly Waffle this week I have switched from Infinity back to 40k. Or more accurately in this case Necromunda, with the last of my Iron Head Squat Prospectors squad. I’ve really enjoyed painting these guys and will be looking to expand the gang in the not too distant future. There are some really nice Forgeworld, or at least what used to be Forgeworld, as I’m not sure it even exists any more. Anyway there are a few different characters that would fit in nicely with these guys. I may even look at another box to expand the gang with some special weapons. And if I do it right they could even fill in as a squad of Hearthkyn Warriors. But that might be getting ahead of myself.

I only had three of the gang to finish off so things haven’t been too manic for me this week. I still had quite a bit of travel but had the hobby time to fit these in and build up a few more minis so I have a supply of ready to paint minis once these are completed. I’ve not done anything different with these with the exception of using the magenta on the power weapon. But no new colours added or anything like that.

The end result has really pleased me and my mojo levels are nice and high. But having said that I’m happy with them I may revisit them in the not toO distant future for a bit of an upgrade. I’m actually paying attention to something in one of my classes at Adoption las year. Which is that you never really finish a mini. Now I know that is always going to be the case but the principle was that you can get the mini to level you are happy with and then leave it. But because you are happy with it now you may not be happy with it in the future and that is the point I’m trying to make here.

So I’ve finished the gang and I’m happy with them but I’m already talking about coming back to them. That is because I think they would even better with a bit of weathering, some chips and scratches. After all they are prospectors digging around in the ash wastes of Necromunda. But as things stand today I’m not sure how to even start adding that damage. So I’m going to leave the as they are for now and do some research, I.e. I’m going to have search for some tips and tricks on YouTube. Then I can come back to them and try to take them to the next level.

But for now what do you think of them.

With those guys in the bag I’m going to stick with Squats for next week and start work on a Kohl. Just the basic one but this is me starting to work my way through the start collecting box that I got all that time ago. It consists of a Kahl, a Champion, two squads of Hearthyn and three Pioneers. All of which have been cleaned up and built but don’t yet have any paint on them. But a lot of the boring time consuming work has been done so when I get round to them it’s all about the colour.

And that colour scheme is going to have to be slightly different to what I have done with the Prospectors. That is mainly because the Kahl doesn’t come with a helmeted head option. Just a normal head. And I’m not going to be painting that blue. So to get the same feel as I did with the Prospectors I’m gong to have to find a different way to introduce that blue element.

The obvious choice would be to go add it to the shoulder pads. That way it will keep the colour high-up on the mini so the feel between the different styles will still be there. But there is a lot more armour on the 40k minis so I may need to introduce some other colours in other places to keep the balance. I’m not sure how that will work at the moment but I’m not going to let it slow me down. My plan is to just crack on like I did with the Prospectors and then work things out as I’m going. And if I think it looks ok I’ll stick with it.

I’m not giving up on the Infinity minis but it is looking more and more like the box set which has going missing in the post isn’t going to be replaces. The shop and Royal Mail seem to be just not getting anything resolved with Royal Mail insisting to the shop they have delivered the item. The shop telling me they can’t replace anything because Royal Mail say it has been delivered. Which I understand. And me stuck in the middle with proof the delivery went to the wrong address but nothing I can do seems to be getting me any closer to resolving the issue.

So I think I’m just going to have to bite the bullet and order the box set again. My only concern is do I get it from the same place knowing it’s going to come via Royal Mail again and hoping they can get it the right address this time. Which they might be able to do because it went via a different delivery office last time because of the Christmas demand. Or do I get it from somewhere else who uses a currier and not Royal Mail. But then I still have to hope that whoever they choose can get it to me at the right address.

This is the problem with new developments and just anybody picking up the roll of post man. If Google Maps doesn’t know exactly where you are then have no chance. And since they converted the building next to mine into flats all sorts of chaos has ensured.

I’m going to leave things there for this week. The word count is little bit lighter than I would have liked but hopefully the finished Squat gang photos will make up for it. Until next week keep safe, have fun whatever you have planned and I hope to see you all for the next Weekly Waffle.
